HSKS 7 Swap Package!!
WOW!! All I can say is THANKS VIOLETTE BLACK, YOU'RE AWESOME!!! I love love love the bag! AND THE LINING! I've always wanted a house bag, but I never got around to making one for myself. And I'd never be brave enough to sew lining in! I really love everything I got, thank you!

Mmmm, Ginger Lemons! They go GREAT with tea!

ASDFJKSLDJ THE BAG OMGLOVE!

Really squishy patons sock yarn, yay! Also, my spinner nerd came out and oogled the fact that it's corespun! (The white bit was held at a 90 degree angle when being plied with the colored single - came out really cool!)

CHOCOLATE TRUFFLES!! Mmmm, so tasty! They didn't even make it to the final haul picture, I gobbled them up! And really cool bamboo knitting needles (size 1US) from Stanwood Crafting.

Stitch markers!! And a really pretty abbacus style counting bracelet that fits me perfectly!

On closer inspection of the stitch markers I realized Violette must have taken the Slytherin crest and MY MEEZ and made awesome little markers from them!! How cool is that?!?! I LOVE THEM!

Sweet little potions card game!

An adorable little HP notebook and GORGEOUS to-do list paper and a matching notebook! Yay, now I can stop writing stuff down on my 3x5 notecards!

The superhaul! THANK YOU!!!!

Farewell Term 7!
What a great term! I made such good friends with my spoilee, Violet Starfire, she is such a sweetheart! I had so much fun this term, even more than the last I think! My swap package is on it's way (yay!!), I got an owl from Violet Black yesterday. I'm so excited, it's really going to lift my spirits after the month I've been having!

I'm headed down the shore this weekend for Goddess Weekend - a gathering of the "goddesses" (me, my best friend, my mom and aunt and all their friends) we do every year at someone's shore house. This year we're doing Wildwood, Cape May, and hopefully some beach time at Avalon (where I usually go to the beach, near my shore house). It's basically going to be Margaritaville!

Sadly I'm getting pretty busy right now and I'm not sure I'll be able to return for a Term 8 :c Maybe I'll be able to return for a Term 9, if there is one!

If you haven't yet, you should check out the PhatFiber Sample Box! I'm a contributor! It's a sampler of very cool, very sweet indie designers like myself that you may not have known about!

Love you all!!

GO SLYTHERIN!!!!

My crafty skills
Vi got her package! And she loved it! I'm so glad she liked everything I put together for her :D

I had to watch my cousins for the last two days and we did a crash course in spinning. On day one we dyed two ounces of corriedale roving (I gave them each an ounce), and they made really gorgeous colorways! I almost wanted to take them home and spin them myself! The older one, Erin, made "Pacific Lilac" - a blend of blues, greens, and flashes of purple. And the younger one, Casey, made "Arizona Sunset" - a gorgeous mixture of yellow and copper tones, with hints of greens and purples - just like a desert sunset!

On day two I was going to teach them how to spin on the wheel so they could spin up their roving BUT I opened my bag of goodies and realized I'd left my bobbins at home! So I ended up making really lo-tech, ghetto drop spindles for them out of pencils, duct tape, and two hooks from my wheel on the side that I don't really use. Casey was excellent at spinning, but she doesn't pay attention when she knits so she's always picking up stitches and dropping stitches. Erin wasn't really paying attention to my lesson and was on the phone with her friend while trying to learn to spin at the same time so she didn't really grasp the concept. However, Erin is excellent at knitting - she picked up the techniques right away!

Package update and more bunnies!!!
Over the weekend my friend's cat got ANOTHER bunny!! She must have found a nest. Luckily, this one only had some minor scratches. I gave him some antibiotics and pain meds for a few days, and he's perked up now. He immediately recognized his brother and they've been so inseparable ever since. They don't even like it when I take them out of the cage one at a time, they like to both be out at once. Tonight we've hit a milestone and they've learned how to use the water bottle to drink from (with some minor conditioning on my part :D) They were also playing tonight and it was SO CUTE! They were doing binkies (those little happy jumps bunnies do), and chasing each other. They've been making a mess of knocking some of the bedding out of their cage and onto my bedroom floor.

I was researching cages for my Woolys today and found that I can transform a dog cage into a rabbit palace! I have a pretty sizeable one from Maggie that she doesn't use anymore, so I plan to renovate that into a nice cage for them.

Also, I just finished packaging my swap kit! Vi, be on the look-out, I'm sending Orpheus off to Michigan tomorrow!

A week with ups and downs
This week has had some definite ups and downs. At the beginning of the week it was my 20th birthday. My mom took me out to Pei Wei for lunch. My friend Kait was supposed to sleep over Tuesday night, and that's when all of the trouble started :c

Before coming over, Kait called to see if I could rehabilitate some rabbits that her cat had attacked. One was completely healthy, just in shock, and the other had a broken foot. My stepdad ok'd the rabbits, so they came over with Kait. They were the cutest damn things ever. 3-4 week old Cottontails, so sweet! On Wednesday we took the gimpy one to the vet and it was determined that the break was an open break, and therefore needed to be amputated or he could be put to sleep. There was nothing they could do to save the leg. He would need to be domesticated as a three legged rabbit, we wouldn't be able to release him back into the wild. So my stepdad grudgingly ok'd that the rabbits could become our pets. My mom and I went to Petsmart to pick up a new cage (since we'd gotten rid of the hutch I used to have for my other rabbit a few years ago), and some food and bedding and hay for them. The vet was going to do the amputation in the morning. "Gimpy" was a trooper, he hadn't screamed once and he was so full of life! The next morning he was even jumping around inside his little box before we took him to the vet.

After the procedure I got a call from the vet to tell me how the procedure went. He didn't make it. Wild bunnies are so erratic that when they go under anesthesia, they relax so much that their hearts stop. I was heart-broken. I was sick to my stomach all day, dreading having to go back to pick up his little body. My brothers were both so upset - everyone in my family was (even my stepdad). My youngest brother gave him a very nice burial next to our other rabbit's grave.

I was so depressed about the rabbit that my mom called me up to see if I still wanted to get Jersey Woolys (which, hello, of course I do!). She looked up some pictures of them online and fell in love with them. I explained about their size and weight and how I'd be spinning their fur, so they're a practical pet. She let me put a hold on two babies from a litter that's due to be born this month from a nearby friend. I'll be able to pick them up 6-8 weeks after they're born :)

So despite having a terrible time trying to save a poor bunny's life, I had a good birthday and I am now able to get the Jersey's I've wanted for almost a year now! We still have the other cottontail brother. He's very funny, just a little character when he explores his cage. He's pretty gentle and likes to be held, which is odd for cottontails - as a wild breed they tend to be like feral cats and run and hide as fast as their huge feet will carry them. He seems to really enjoy the human attention he gets so we're debating still keeping him or taking him to the local wildlife center to be rehabilitated. My brothers decided he was their rabbit and that they were keeping him, lol!

Busy busy!
I've been trucking through the last week or so, working hard on my samples for April's Phat Fiber box (I'm so excited about them! They've come out so nice!!) AND working hard on finishing my swap package! I'm nearly done, just waiting for a few last things to arrive in the mail. Ack, and I need to get my RAOKs out!! I'm putting the final touches on them and then I can send them out.

I've been suffering from squirrel syndrome a lot in the past week. I'll look at something that needs to get done, go over to it and pick it up to work on it, then my eye will catch something else even more urgent that needs to get done, and I go over to that instead, and again and again and again. I end up getting nothing done because I'm fretting over what needs to be done!

More spinning stuff, because I know you guys love it XD:
Yarn-y goodness

Rovng samples! Which I spritzed with some of my DKNY Be Delicious green apple perfume and they smell SO.GOOD. I wish to keep some for myself, but they have to go to Jessie haha!

Must go continue suffering squirrel syndrome!

Spinning
Yaaay 3 new skeins :3 Here's what I've done over the last two weeks.

"Candy Cane Lane"; 185 yds worsted weight 100% Merino - My sister asked for a beret from this. I have no idea why, lol. I'm going to knit a swatch from it tonight and show her how it will look to make sure it's what she wants.

"Navy Seal"; 76 yds Dk weight 100% Merino

"Midnight on the Balcony"; 190 yds Dk weight 100% Merino

I have no idea why, but in the first two pics I could not for the life of me find any change, so I resorted to two Mexican pesos I found in the drawer. As usual, click for full sized pictures!

Dreams are just that - dreams
Don't you hate it when you have a dream that you buy a really great outfit or something you really want and the next day you go to look for it and it's not there? I just had a dream that I found baby jersey wooley (dwarf angora) rabbits in my yarn and my stepdad was going to let me keep them. There was a black one, a white one, a siamese looking one, a bluish-grey one, and one that looked like a tabby cat. They were perfect and their fur was so luxurious :c Now I'm a sad panda because I know my stepdad is NEVER going to let me get a rabbit ever again, especially since they need to be kept inside. Now I'm wishing I didn't have fish and that I'd never gotten rats when I was going through a stubborn phase, because then just MAYBE I would have been able to convince him to let me get one or two. I almost bought one the other day at the columbus market. And I've been browsing the ones up for adoption at the local rabbit rescues. I just might be able to convince my mom and dad that it would be a good thing for me to buy because it would be beneficial and a profitable creature to have - I wouldn't need to buy as much fiber for myself to spin, and I could sell whatever I don't spin and make loads of money!

Wheel: Finished!!
Whew! We got a whole foot of snow yesterday! That's the most we've gotten in about two years. I wish I did live in Scotland, because I bet the winters there are absolutely gorgeous. I love winter, it's my favorite season. I figured with the way the climate's been the last few years that we'd have one big storm - winter's last stand - before Spring arrives. It's March already? Geez. I'll be 20 in 28 days o____________o That's weird to think about.

I finished putting together Sunday night. There were a few snags a long the way - namely the wheel not fitting onto the spoke all the way, but I managed to get it on there. Today I finished 60.5 yards of heavy fingering/light DK weight yarn. I finished off my bright teal color and plied it with a really pretty apple green. It's drying now, so I'll have some pictures up when it's done.

Like I said earlier, I decided to name the wheel Einin (a-neen, meaning "little bird"), which I thought was clever and fitting. She also has Eirinn go Brach on the wheel, two eternal love knots and trinity knots on the spokes. And she says Briongloid Alainn on the inner circle, which means "beautiful dream". The treadles have the kiwi in yellow, a green fleur de lis, another trinity knot, and Tir na Nog (meaning "land of eternal youth"). She works like a dream!

Wheel: In Progress
I've finished the second coat of stain. I loooove the color we happened to have lying around (lucky me!) BUT I've decided I hate the green I've picked out for the wheel, and now I'm kind of digging just a stained wheel. I'm thinking that I'll still paint the celtic knots in gold, but I'll get some tubes of green acryllic to paint clovers or something and vines around the knots. And I'm still painting the kiwi yellow. I debated over painting the treadles green, but I think it would look weird now since I'm not painting the whole wheel green. I think I might still paint the flyer though. Maybe. Or just decorate it with clovers and vines. AUGH, my indecision is killing me :c ETA: I might even write Ireland Forever in gaelic on the inner circle!

I still have no clue what to name her. Any suggestions?

Pictures so far (click to enlarge):

When the box first arrived.

The Wheel.

Everything together

In progress in my stepdad's shop room. The stain is Sherwin William's Wood Classics in Fruitwood (2 coats)

ETA: I've decided to name her Einin (a-neen), which is a gaelic name for girls which means "little bird". I thought it was totally fitting :D

Antici........pation!
The wait is seriously going to put me in the hospital wing with Madame Promfey!!! According to the UPS tracking site, it's about twenty minutes away from me, but that could still mean I'm the last delivery on the list between here and the UPS center in NJ!!! AHHH!! I just want it now!

I ordered a really cool book called Celtic Borders on Layout Grids, so I'm going to blow those up to 17" to use as a stencil for the wheel. And I found a really pretty stain in the basement in my stepdad's work room that will go lovely with the green and gold paint, so yay! I want to test out the stain and paint on some scrap wood but I'm not sure what's scrap or not in his room. Thankfully the weather's cleared up today! Hopefully I can get the sanding and first coat or two of stain on tonight!! OH MY GOSH, I'M SO EXCITED.

I finished a really pretty teal yarn on the spindle on Friday. I plied it with a nice gold thread. I actually got it to spin pretty thing, really close to laceweight I think! But it ranges from laceweight to worsted I think. My arms get too tired to make everything even on the spindle!

I also plan to sand, stain, and lacquer my swift so that everything matches. Oh! Now I remember what I wanted to get at Home Depot the other day! The PVC piping to make my niddy-noddy! Damn, now I'll have to make a trip back :c

I need to go make something. I'm going to go work on my package to keep me occupied, haha!

Pop-u-lar
I found out my wheel is shipping from WA, which is kind of a bummer, but it should be here Monday. I just got the mail because no one brought it in today and there was like a million packages for me!! One was the super perfect yarn I bought for my spoilee, Vi, one was a book I bought, one was my Dead Like Me box set and movie, and the last (and best) one was my new drum carders!! All the way from England! And she included a whole bunch of fiber!!!! IN PRETTY COLORS!! I literally danced around my room holding their wonderful smooshyness to my face for five minutes (yes, I'm pathetic, I know). She even added a packet of white pomegranate tea! It's a white tea though, and I usually prefer my tea with cream and sugar, so I'm not sure I'll like it. I want to make a batt RIGHTNOW. Maybe I'll make one while I'm watching Leverage tonight :D I'll take some pictures later if I make one!

Wheeeeeel
My extra bobbins and 1lb of corriedale shipped today and should arrive Wednesday or Thursday (from VT to NJ XD) and the wheel should be here Friday or Monday. I'm SO excited!!!! I still need to get a primer, fine sand paper (which my stepdad needs anyway), and some polyurethane to seal it with. A friend of mine is going to help me design some celtic knots to paint on the wheel after I paint it green. I'm so so so excited. I have no idea how I'm going to be able to wait long enough to finish the wheel before I can put it together.

This week, aside from studying and working (which I need to change my schedule), I'm working on the beret pattern I'm writing and putting my other pattern in pdf form. I got a few more things for Violet's kit, too. Yay, progress :3

First Day of School :3
My orientation starts today for University of Phoenix :) I involuntarily took last semester off when I got some bad personal news. I've changed schools three times now, and I've tried all different types. Kutztown University was a nice town-based school where I lived on campus. Burlington County College was a convenient community college that was right around the corner from my house. And University of Phoneix Axia College is the best yet - school online! Now I don't have to worry about changing my work schedule around and I can go to school where I want, when I want. It's intense work and faster paced than a 15 week semester (9 week course blocks), but I like it because it's only two classes at a time rather than 4-6 at a time.

I've also switched majors with each school I've gone to. At KU I was a Biology major, with dreams of becoming a doctor. Then at BCC I was a Nursing major. And now I'm happily a Web & Graphic Design major. I love it, I'm doing what makes me happy! (Not that science doesn't, but only genetics is my guilty nerdy pleasure)

I've been uploading the 1000+ photos from my Disney trip in January! If I can get a minute to breathe, I'll post a few pictures and a link to the album! I also have to make an album for my ski trip and my Canada trip from last summer!

Jumped the gun
Looks like I won't be getting my snazzy custom made wheel after all :< I'm going to save up and get the Ashford Kiwi, because if I'm going to spend money on a wheel I want a wooden one. That's ok though, because my stepdad is still going to lacquer it for me (woo, $100 saved right there!) And I'm definitely buying from a site that has free shipping & those freebies that come with it.

OMAGAH.
I'm highly geeked out and excited right now. Last night my stepdad said he would build me a spinning wheel!! A SPINNING WHEEL!!!!!!! I haven't tried one out yet, but I plan to head down to Woolbearer's (lys) to test theirs out. I also was up until 2AM last night researching the crap out of the different types. I highly covet the Ashford Kiwi, or the Saxony - I like that one too. My spinning on a drop spindle is alright, not great. Mostly because I spend too much time focusing on the twist and drafting and the triangle than paying attention to how fast the spindle is spinning. I've never dropped it yet (but that's probably cause it's that featherweight from the Louet learn to spin kit), but my spinning has never really evened out with the spindle spinning. And I know the spinning wheel confuses some people, but I've looked at so many videos of people using theirs and I get it. I'm pretty sure I could sit down at a Kiwi right now and start spinning like a happy camper!

So far I know that I want a double treadle, single drive scotch tension, and I haven't decided if I want an upright or something more like a saxyony style (OMG SLEEPING BEAUTY). I also think I want a build in lazy kate, especially if I go with the saxony style since there's plenty of room to add some customization in there. I was thinking I might get him to make the wheel, the treadles, and everything and maybe buy a flyer kit from ashford if he can't figure it out, because that's the most important part - the business end of the spinning wheel lol. I also wasn't really sure what size wheel I wanted. I know the kiwi is 17.5" in diameter, and I saw a saxony one last night with a 22" diameter. The size of the wheel would only affect my ratio, correct?

Also, there's these videos I found of Tara from Blonde Chicken Boutique on youtube that are actually way helpful for my research (and pretty amusing, actually). They're here.

Term 7; Slytherin Quiz #001
1. What are your three most favorite colors?
Green, Yellow, Purple or Teal-ish Blue

2. What are you three least favorite colors?
Obnoxious orange...I think that's it.

3. Your favorite candy is _________________.
REESES. PEANUT BUTTER. CUPS. Or anything by reeses/anything containing milk chocolate and peanut butter. Or sweedish fish!!!

4. Draco, Lucius, or Snape?
Draco post-ootp, for the fact that he actually grows a pair and smashes Harry's face in ♥ And because he really isn't a bad guy. (Well, then again, neither was Snape, but he was an asshat) And Narcissa ♥

5. Do you knit, crochet, or both?
Both, but I knit more

6. What type of kit did you ask for?
Mitts/gloves cause I'm a mitts/gloves WHORE!

7. Acrylic—has its uses, should all be burned, best yarn to work with (choose one)?
Cheap and college-budget friendly :3 Also: easy care ♥ And can totes be just as soft as any cashmere.

8. Who is the Slytherin Head Girl this term?
The awesome and wonderful Quinn ♥

9. Name four “extras” you would love to receive in your kit.
TEA, I love tea XD; anything to do with disney/alice in wonderland/beauty and the beast/little mermaid; anything to do with the irish/ireland/celtic knots/etc.; something cool from your hometown/state/area!

10. What are your three most favorite scents?
Pumpkin, apple, vanilla

11. Do you prefer salty or sweet snacks?
Both. Best of both worlds XD

12. Which Slytherin is the Keeper of the Crucio List?
Cassandra Puddlemere

13. Do you really need more stitch markers?
Probably not, but I love collecting them anyway! I'm always making them for other people so I'm always giving them away.

14. Dpns, circular, or straight?
Depends on the project but usually circs, or DPNs. I would really really really love a new pair of options size 8 nickel plated needles from knit picks, since my last project made me dent the crap out of them. They're still usable, it just makes me a sad snakie to see them so dented :(

15. What yarn makes you squee?
Just about every yarn I buy, because I'm a retard like that. I'm overexcitable. Most recently the small ball of 100% silk that I bought, which probably will never be made into anything because I have to find that perfect project for it!!!

16. Favorite HP Movie?
This is always such a difficult debate for me because the movies are NOT the books and I always expect them to be because I'm so stubborn. I think right now it's the third one. Although, when HBP finally comes out, I have a feeling it will solidly take number one (so long as it isn't TOO ruined), because HPB is my favorite book ♥

17. Favorite HP character?
Narcissa, hands down. The ultimate Slytherpuff, she is cunning and ambitious and subtle, and she does what she has to for her family, even if that means risking everything.

18. Who was your first choice for DADA professor?
Out of the picks that the Slytherins had been voting for? It was a very difficult choice because, ho-god, the hotness XD. My first choice was David Boreanaz ♥ Moody vampire love of my younger teenage years and kickass sexy (special) fbi agent of my college years XD

19. What is the Slytherin Common Room called?
The Dungeons to anyone not in it, and the Snake Pit for everyone who is.

20. What makes you worthy of being in Slytherin House?
The fact that I'm awesomesauce. My hardcore ambition, willingness to take advantage of the situation (let's just call it my opportunism ;P), realism, and the gray area that I view the world in and the potential I see.

Snazzy new header
Made a header to go with my snazzy new layout XD I'm kind of in love with this coloring right now. If you would like to use the header, feel free! You can get it here. There's a blank version that you can add your own text to.

I stayed up until 3:30AM last night!!!! I'm exhausted! I was revamping my graphics journal, which finally looks presentable. I'm trying this new thing where I actually, y'know, post in it :P

I have house pride icons, too, if anyone is interested! They can be found here.

Snazzy new layout
Ah, I found an acceptable color scheme :3 For now the header image will do. After this weekend I'll make a new header in Photoshop or something, because it's going to bug me that the image doesn't fit. TAKE THAT BLOGGER! I can't wait to get my spoilee so I can get started on my package for this term! I'm so so so excited that we can have the option of hoping for mitt kits! I'm kinda sorta a fingerless gloves/mittens whore.

I pulled out my yarn to start my Endpaper Mitts today. I've almost started the pattern six times, but every time I find a reason to put the pattern away for a rainy day and another one of my eight million projects takes priority. I am determined to make them. Slytherpuff style, in awesome green and yellow!!

I meant to go to the LYS today, but I never got around to it D: Work kept me too late. Oh well, at least I'm officially in Slytherin for this term! (Not that I had much doubt of where I'd be, I sent Orpheus off with my student information as soon as the sign up times started, he has excellent agility)

Year Two Slytherin!
I sent Orpheus off with my student information for Hogwarts today! I am looking forward to getting settled into the dorm again. Father gave me a new broom for the holidays, and I've been practicing my flying so that I can be of more help to the Quidditch team this term. This year the cup shall be ours!

Swap Package, part 2
Ok, now that I've gotten errands out of the way, I finally have time to open my package!!!!!!!! I brought the box down into my dining room for proper lighting. Suzie, my older cat was being nosy (plus she follows me everywhere) and came over to see what I was doing.

The package :3

When I opened it, I was amazed! Angelina must have used some shrinking charms to fit everything inside!

Look at all of my goodies!!!

The first thing I pulled out of the package was a lovely letter from Angelina telling me what was inside my pacakge and two sock patterns!

Then I unwrapped these gorgeous bamboo needles! Straights AND DPNs!

Next I found these Pumpkin candles from Yankee Candle Co. (which I love) and Oh. My. God. they smell SO good!!!

When I opened the next two packages, I squee'd with delight! Not one, not two, not even three - 4 skeins of yarn!!!!!! The green chunky weight alpaca one feels amazing, like clouds! And the sock yarns are GORGEOUS!

Then I found out I got CANDY!!! I'm a huge sweet tooth, so this is a major plus. I've never heard of the company that made the chocolate bar, but I'm saving the wrapper since it's so pretty! The jellybean nerds are very very tasty, and are actually already gone... I opened up the gummy bears, too, since Hairbo Gold-bears are the BEST gummy bears ever!!!!

Angelina even gave me things for my pets!! I can already say that my dogs are very pleased with the treats and they were happy to steal the toys away from the cats, they were going nuts over the toys while we ate dinner XD. And the cats were happy to play with the scrap yarn from the wrapping and they loved their treats!

And then I was down to one package left to open. It is by far the best part of the package! It's soft and fluffy, and it SMELLS GOOD!! Angelina, did you spray it with perfume? The design is beautiful and the color pattern is amazing!!! It's a beautiful reversible cabled scarf!! I LOVE IT THANK YOU SO MUCH ANGELINA!!!

Suzy decided to play with the scrap yarn and lay on top of everything!

Here's the aftermath, haha:
